A summer of success
The Summer has been punctuated by two brilliant results days. Initially students and staff celebrated another brilliant set of Sixth Form results. Norton is a unique local sixth form because it enables students to combine academic with vocational courses. Students have used this to their advantage to secure offers from a wide variety of degree courses; from Film Production at Salford University to Maths at York University.
More students than ever before took up University places and were able to secure places prestigious Universities such as London, York, Nottingham, Salford and Hull. Courses were diverse including English Literature, Dance, Mathematics, English, Environmental Sciences and Performing Arts, Film Production and History.
All who wanted to enter the world of employment, secured jobs or began their career studying Higher Level Apprenticeships in fields such as Business Administration at Norton Primary School .
In Year 11 we celebrated another strong set of results at Norton College as 66% of the year group secured at least grade 4s in both English and maths. Encouragingly, over half the year group also secured at least a new grade 5 in either English or maths. Almost 80% of students secured a grade 4 in English. It was exciting to see some children secure the new A** grade 9 in a range of subjects too
Students faced a tougher challenge this year with GCSE subjects having more challenging content and no coursework element. However, this is yet another strong performance from the Class of 2018. Over two thirds of the year group achieved at least 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4. The progress of students of all abilities is, once again, really pleasing.
Students sometimes roll their eyes when they hear us talk about our belief in them and the need for hard work. And how this is all they need to give them the opportunity to secure a place at University or secure a career of their choice. However, for the Class of 2018 it is mission accomplished!
