27th March, 2017

The last two weeks have been a whirlwind of activity for the team at Norton – sporting fixtures, spring concert, an external review and exam preparation. Our traditional Spring Concert offered a brilliant showcase to some of the talents in the school. Our belief in student leadership meant that those students who organised, hosted and produced the event were assessed as part of their Post 16 courses.

We welcomed an external review team led by an Ofsted trained inspector to give governors an independent review of our current position. The comments from students who reported back were really encouraging:

“I love this school and I am so proud of this school”;

“The staff are dedicated to helping us”;

“The support systems are amazing. They all want the best for you”.

It was perhaps no surprise that the team identified that the College: “Appears to be at the top of the ‘Good’ grade as judged by Ofsted and it has features of ‘Outstanding’ in some of its provision with good capacity to sustain improvement.”

We are beginning to look forward to the Tour de Yorkshire whizzing past the College in a month’s time and students have 3 exciting projects in which to be involved.

* A chance to leave lessons to watch the race;

* A chance to take part in a Cycling Time Trial organised by British Cycling;

* A chance to be involved in a piece of performance theatre and be captured in action by a helicopter TV crew.

Needless to say, the final countdown of preparations for external examinations in Year 11 and 13 are well underway and staff, once again, have met as a group to share and plan how we can offer our students all the support they need to be “Truly Brilliant”.

Finally, if you would like to be involved in the strategic lead of the College, we currently have vacancies for Trust and Parent governors. Details are available from College reception.
