As part of the Evolution Schools Learning Trust, a Multi Academy Trust, the governors of Norton College have the responsibility to set the strategic direction of the school. We work closely with the Headteacher and senior leaders within the College to ensure objectives and standards are achieved, and that progress towards our goals is maintained.
The Governing body is made up of trust appointed, co-opted and parent governors, as well as staff elected governors and the Headteacher.
Along with Full Governing Body meetings, we have two sub-committees that have delegated authorities to support and challenge the management of the College.
Our sub-committees are:
Education - considering the progress made in Achievement, Teaching and Learning, the 6th form and Engagement and Aspirations.
Business - considering Finance, Staffing, Health and Safety, Premises management.
Another key role each governor undertakes is to link to a particular element of the College Raising Achievement Plan; visiting regularly and building up a supportive relationship with the Senior Leaders and staff. These links allow governors to witness first-hand the progress made by the College, hear the student voice, analyse evidence and understand future needs of the College. The Governors then use this data as part of our assessment of the performance of the College.
However, being a governor is not all about work: we enjoy attending the annual presentation evening, the school concerts, Norton's Got Talent show, the annual school production, school open evenings, as well being involved in a brilliant College.
