On Wednesday 18th November, Year 8 attended “Opportunity Knocks” at Lady Lumley’s and was sponsored by North Yorkshire Business Education Partnership (NYBEP). The purpose of the visit was to raise aspirations by providing an opportunity for our students to explore future careers pathways.
The students had prepared for the event during mentor times, using ‘Fast Tomato’ and studying the plan of the companies which were to be present, so as to make decisions about who they wished to visit. There were over 30 companies present with some offering hands on experience of the sort of work they do, and valuable advice. Our students were impeccably behaved and asked intelligent questions to find out more information. The companies encompassed a wide range of vocations from ‘The Academy’ for hair, Paramedics, and North Yorkshire Moors National Parks to engineering companies and apprenticeships. The students were positively engaged for an hour and now have an insight into local careers and their qualification requirements.
