  • Norton College celebrates another year’s brilliant results!

    Students, staff and families celebrated another strong set of results at Norton College as 66% of the year group secured at least grade 4s in both English and maths. Encouragingly, over half the year group also secured at least a new grade 5 in either English or maths. Almost 80% of students secured a grade 4 in English.

  • Anti Bullying Week All Different All Equal.

    Teachers and mentors have supported this year's Anti Bullying Week and have introduced a series of short 15 minute activities into lessons to promote thinking about this year's national Anti-Bullying message, All Different All Equal. The activities encouraged children to think about how throwaway comments can be unwittingly hurtful to others.

    Children In Need activities lasted all week, were well supported and over £1600 was raised. The generosity of our children reflects well on how students have engaged with the concept of supporting children who have significant challenges to overcome.

  • Ofsted - A Good School

    We are, again, a Good school following a visit from Ofsted on 20th September 2017.
    Inspectors visited lessons, met with students, teachers, senior leaders and governors and analysed over 240 questionnaires from staff, parents and students. I was delighted that the inspectors acknowledged the excellent progress the College has made since its last inspection in 2013. They confirmed that the school continues to provide a ‘Good’ education.
    A theme running through the report is Ofsted's recognition of the culture of high expectations that the school has built on since 2013. They said that school leaders had firmly established a culture of ‘ASPIRE’, where pupils are clear about our expectations for them to achieve, develop as an individual and achieve their full potential.

    We are delighted to announce that in the provisional performance tables, published on Friday 13 October by the Department of Education, Norton College alumni of 2017 have done brilliantly well, coming 19th in North Yorkshire for progress across all subjects from primary, out of 79 secondary schools!

  • College Pride in Sporting Success

    We are proud of Leah's achievement in cricket. Leah joined Norton College 5 years ago with a love for cricket and a committed family behind her. Assisted by Norton's PE depts. connections, Leah began to accelerate her progress and at the start of year 11 she has just finished another incredible season of cricket, playing for Yorkshire at under 15, under 17 and 2nd XI. She scored the most runs this season across all the Yorkshire female age groups. Leah also won the Lady Taverners National Under 15 T20 competition with Sessay Cricket Club (Thirsk).

  • Inspection of Norton College on 20 September 2017

    HMI Renshaw and her team visited the college on Wednesday 20th September 2017 for one day. She shared their findings with governors and leaders on Wednesday evening. Whilst the outcome remains confidential at this point, governors and leaders were pleased with the outcome. The short inspection report will be published within 19 days.

  • Norton College secures a place in the top 20% of all schools with brilliant results.

    In a new demanding landscape of English and Maths GCSE, graded 9-1, the high standards of Norton College have been mainitained. Students, staff and families celebrated another brilliant set of results which placed the school in the top 20% of all schools. Once again almost 75% of students secured good passes in these critical subjects.
