A real love for reading

Norton College wants to make reading cool and is making a big splash, across the school, in its push towards a real love for reading.

As part of a co-ordinated and determined approach by the English Department, there is to be a much greater focus on embedding a range of taught reading strategies, reading for pleasure and vocabulary building in all lessons, as well as at home.

Other developments in the new strategy include sixth form students acting as guided reading mentors to younger students, displaying a Word of the Week in the weekly student bulletin and teachers putting posters up in their classrooms about the book they are reading and why they love it.
